On Feb. 9, 2023, the German Bundestag passed a resolution by a large majority to exempt associations and their general meetings from the legal requirement that they usually only be held in person. Now the members of an association should also have the opportunity to participate in a general meeting digitally. This means that members will have the opportunity to participate in the general meeting of their own association, even if they cannot be present on site.

The new law has significantly simplified the rules for digital general meetings. This means that associations no longer have to amend their articles of association to make digital or hybrid assemblies possible. Instead, association members should now be able to participate in their own association's general meeting digitally or hybrid, even if one cannot be present on site.
